Walk-a-thon
The PTA membership drive takes place in the fall. We encourage all families to join. The main PTA fundraiser is the Walk-a-Thon held in the Spring which combines fundraising with physical fitness. Children are sponsored as they walk or run around the track on the lower playground.
Effort, motivation & energy featured prominently in last year’s very successful 18th Annual PTA Walk-a-Thon. Thanks to generous parents, our fabulous teachers and high-spirited student athletes, we raised over $18,000 for our PTA. Congratulations to all on an outstanding accomplishment!
This Year’s Walk-A-Thon News!
It’s Marquez PTA Walk-A-Thon time once again! The Walk-A-Thon is one of the most beloved events at Marquez, and this year marks the 19th consecutive running of the Walk-A-Thon. Friday May 19th, 2010 classrooms will take turns running around the lower yard track to see how many laps can be completed in 15 minutes. Children ask family and friends to sponsor them as they participate in this fundraiser. All children who participate receive a recognition certificate, Walk-A-Thon t-shirt and are eligible for great prizes. Come and join us for this very fun event!
The Marquez Parent Teachers Association, a member of the 10th District PTA, promotes the education, health and welfare of our children. PTA is the largest grass-roots child advocacy organization in the world. Throught the generosity of parents and teacher members, the PTA has implemented and continues to support the following:
- Emergency Shed – fully stocked with food, water, first aid supplies needed in the event of an emergency
- Campus Security
- Marquez T-shirts for students to wear during field trips to increase safety and visibility
- Fund the Quiet Center with games and art supplies so that children have an quiet alternative during lunch
- Sponsor the annual Science Fair
- Education assemblies
- Parent Education series with a rotating roster of speakers
- Co-host new parent orientations and prospective parent tours
- Sponsor Paul Revere night for parents to learn about our complex middle school
- Purchased a school-wide radio communication system
- Provide new teachers with funds to start up their classroom
- CPR Training for teachers
- Recognize teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week
- Provide additional lighting outside of school
This is Marquez PTA’s ONLY major fundraiser of the year and we ask that you support this event with your donations. Most importantly, plan to be a part of the Fun on May 19th!
