General Meeting Minutes
January 19, 2005
I. Minutes.
The Minutes of the November 17, 2004 meeting were reviewed and approved.
II. Pending Business.
President Gayle Kirkpatrick thanked Deanne Wilkins and STAR for taking on the payroll responsibility for the classroom aides. Linda Scheibel may be appointed aides supervisor. At present, the aides report to Vice-Principal Vida Brucker. A Kindergarten playhouse has been purchased but we are awaiting city approval. We are also awaiting permits for a shade structure and the Teacher’s Lounge improvements. CPR training will be rescheduled soon.
III. Technology Committee.
Larry Mayer reported that two computers were recently donated by Larry Spivak. A digital camera training session for the teachers will be held soon. We are looking for a new head of this committee. Bobby the computer lab aide will be leaving; we are looking for a replacement.
IV. Auction.
Donation items are needed by mid-February. Wendy Wilimovsky and Tracie Rossie are heading up class projects. Volunteers are needed to help sell ads.
V. Treasurer’s Report.
Annual giving is at 78% of budget. Holiday Grams made $900. The Marquee has made $2,300. Expenses are pretty much on target. We have $265,000 in receipts at present. We have a net so far this year of $92,000.
VI. Special Event.
The 50th Anniversary Event will be held on Sunday June 5th. $2,500 was requested from FOM to fund this event. The President requested a budget but indicated some funds would likely be approved.
VII. Academic Dean’s Report.
Susie Newman reported regarding the status of grants. Three grant proposals have been or will soon be submitted: American Legion, Masons and Junior Women’s League. Thank you notes need to be sent in order to be considered for next year. We are expected to receive approximately $15,000 from these grants, in addition to the $7,000 we already received. As part of the Kids Reaching Out program, the 3rd graders are participating in Alice’s Lemonade Stand to raise money for Pediatric Cancer Research. The kids set up lemonade stands and bake sales. Karen Canup reported that the toy drive for the 1st grade benefiting the Westside Children’s Center was very successful. Career week is in the works. Science Fair is to be held in June.
VIII. Miscellaneous.
The FOM/ PTA office at the rear of the Teacher’s Lounge has been cleaned out. Everyone is asked to keep fundraising binders inside. A popcorn machine will not be purchased at this time. Safety vests may be purchased for the teachers and administrators to wear in case of emergency; budget to follow.
