Friends of Marquez

Friends of Marquez (FOM) is organized and run by parent volunteers who coordinate the raising and spending of over $500,000 annually.

More than raising money, we also rely on parents to volunteer their time. Together, parents time and money, help make a tremendous difference to Marquez Charter School.

In 1983, parents at Marquez organized a non-profit corporation, Friends of Marquez, to raise money for class size reduction, art, music, drama, physical education, computers, teacher’s assistants, an edible garden and many other extras that enhance our school. Friends of Marquez is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and donations to it are tax deductible. Consult your tax adviser.

Meetings:

Friends of Marquez generally meets on the 3^rd Thursday of each month in the Teachers Lounge, after drop off/from 8:30 am.  Everyone is welcome!

The single best and most cost-effective way to give is through the Circle of Giving campaign which runs for the first 100 days of school. The next major fundraiser is the Spring Auction; it’s a live and silent auction, dinner and sometimes entertainment too. Capacity is capped at approximately 300 seats, so book your tickets early this year!

There are several additional ways to earn money for Marquez, without changing your spending:

• Register your Ralphs club card at http://www.ralphs.com/myralphs/703/Pages/community_contribution.aspx and Marquez automatically gets 4-5% on all your purchases (contact Myra Tzung);
• Purchase gift cards for dozens of retailers, including Gelson’s, Whole Foods, Amazon, Robeks, Gap and many more and Marquez gets back up to 33% (contact Cyndy Ufkes or Bridget Guy) ;
• Link to your favorite on-line e-tailers through www.eScrip.com and Marquez gets a percentage of all your purchases;
• Register your credit card through www.eScrip.com and Marquez gets a percentage of all your purchases;
• Order new magazines for fun summer reading or renew your subscriptions thru QSP Readers Digest and Marquez gets up to 40%;
• Bake for Bake Stalls at the monthly Marquez Malls;
• Donate to Garage Sales.
