Walk-A-Thon—Today!

The PTA Walk-A-Thon is coming up this Friday, May 29th!  Please be sure to sign and return the Parent Release Form and your childs WAT envelopes with pledges to your teachers or the office on Thursday, May 28th.  This is the PTAs biggest fundraiser of the year so please be sure to return the pledges!  PTA would like to thank the Mohamadi Family (Maygol in Kinder) for their generous donation towards the WAT T-shirts this year!  Please join your childs class for the big day and cheer them on while they help raise money for our great school!

Open House—Tuesday, June 2nd

Open House is coming up quickly.  This annual event is a great time for you to come to your childs classroom and see the great work that has been completed over the course of the year.  This years Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2 from 6pm  7 pm.  I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to come and visit your childs classroom one last time before the summer vacation.  Parents, please understand that although we encourage you to visit the next grade level, it is the Marquez policy not to take requests for the following years teacher.   Teachers take every child into account when determining the placement for the following year.  Much time and effort is involved with placements and although we would love to accommodate everyones wishes it is impossible and so placement options are not to be requested.  I thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Early Dismissals

The school schedule will change beginning Monday, June 8 when everyday dismissal will take place at 1:50pm.  Please note this change on your calendar.  Culmination for the 5th grade will be on Thursday, June 18 this year.  The last day of school will be Friday, June 19.

Governing Board Reschedule–June 11th

The final Governing Board meeting will  be rescheduled from the 18th of June to the 11th of June at 2:00 pm.  Prior to this meeting we will have a special Town Hall event on Wednesday, June 10 at 6pm.  At this meeting we will have a dialogue regarding the budget and the upcoming school year, the class size and the enrichments that we usually fund.  I want to thank you for the surveys you completed, but this Town Hall will be a place where you can voice your opinions to Friends of Marquez and the Budget Committee before the final recommendation is given to the Governing Board the following day.  Teachers hopes and wishes will be presented to the parent body at this meeting as well.  It will be a great way for everyone to hear all the concerns and realities of the current budget and its impact on your childs education.  Please plan to attend.

Raising Ethical Children Talk

It has come to my attention that a great panel is upcoming at Kehillat Israel.  On Wednesday, June 3 from 7pm-9pm Raising Ethical Children will be the topic discussed by four distinguished experts.  This is a free seminar that sounds like it might be quite valuable for many families.  Panelists include Michael Josephson, Rabbi Steven Carr Rueben, Alan Yellin, and Steven Cron.  For more information you can contact (310) 459-2328, ext 253.

Come See the Play—Plymouth 2.0

On June 14 at 4pm there will be an amazing performance at the Broad Theatre in Santa Monica. The world premiere of a jazzy, toe-tapping musical featuring multi-grade Marquezian Stars will make its debut.  Plymouth 2.0 is written by our own Jeff Lantos.  This promises to be a great afternoon.  Plymouth 2.0 came out of one of the amazing STAR programs offered here at Marquez.  Tickets are $15 and will be available during Open House.  If you would like, you can check out   www.stareventtickets.org to purchase tickets online.
