Read-a-thon

Read-A-ThonThe Read-a-Thon is an annual fundraiser that encourages students to read and enjoy reading.  All funds raised go exclusively to our library program.  Students can read books independently or together with their parents.

The goal is for each student to read 10 or more books over the Read-a-Thon, and have ten family members/friends sponsor them at $1 per book.  We can raise $100 per student for our library.

The Read-a-Thon kickoff is usually in November and ends in January.  Each student who participates receives a Certificate of Recognition for a job well done.  Students who read 10 or more books receive a medal.  Students who have read five or more book half way through theRead-a-Thon will get their names listed in Mr. Hollis’ weekly newsletter.  The class at each grade level that reads the most books will get an ice cream party and their teachers will receive a gift certificate to Village Books.

2008 Read-a-Thon UPDATE:

Together we helped organize the students to read to new levels!! From December 7 to Feb 15, they turned in logs totaling over 12,000 books!!! We raised a little over $16,000! Based on the forms turned in to date we had 71% participation and 57% earned medals. We had several classes with 100% participation and two classes that read over 1000 books. In addition we collected 31 boxes of books (over 3000 books) for the families of Leo Politi School. Their principal and several students and teachers came to accept them (SEE PHOTO).
