Curriculum

At Marquez Charter School, our teachers use creative teaching strategies that engage students in learning important material. We often enhance the state curriculum with enriched learning that includes the study of artists and musicians as well as grade level hands-on research projects.

In an effort to provide a cohesive, systematic academic curriculum for all students at Marquez Charter School, we have developed a set of expectations students are to achieve at each grade level throughout their school years. Please keep in mind that these are the basic skills at each grade and that teachers will use different strategies to meet these objectives and many others throughout the school year. This is the eighth year we have provided these standards to parents. We have found that they assist parents, teachers and students in driving forward our academic program.

The Curriculum Committee

The Marquez Curriculum Committee works diligently to continue to improve the overall academic program at the school. Led by our Academic Dean, a dedicated group of teachers and parents discuss and implement curriculum and teaching strategies that inspire students and teachers. The group has recently been instrumental in adopting new math materials and a school wide visual arts program. This year, the Curriculum Committee will focus on the language arts, integrating other subject areas through reading and writing.

Grade Level Expectations

You will find grade-level expectations in language arts, math, science and social studies and a general grade-level spelling list. You will also find a comprehensive writing curriculum, the Service Learning Curriculum, research projects at each grade level, a school wide art/music appreciation program, visual art expectations, physical education skills, a reading list and technology expectations. This year we are pleased to present as well our new Kids for Kindness curriculum. The Curriculum Committee and staff are proud of this growing document as it reflects the strong and well rounded curriculum we provide to all students at Marquez Charter Elementary School.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or Susie Newman, our Academic Dean.
